Tetris Desk Lamp: Geeky lamp with restackable parts

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 03:09 AM PST

Probably one of the most famous video games of all time is Tetris, and if you're a Tetris fan, or just a passionate video game geek, today we have something special for your living room.

Not that long ago we covered geeky Tetris cufflinks, and today we have something different, this time for your living room. Tetris Desk Lamp is comprised of several Tetris pieces and these pieces can be separated and restacked again in a different order, so it's almost as if you have your real-life version of Tetris in your living room. In addition, each piece lights up when you put it over another glowing piece, therefore, the results are rather impressive. As you can see, Tetris Desk Lamp is one impressive lamp and it will be a nice addition to your living room, especially if you are a video game geek.

Tetris Desk Lamp should be available for sale on September, and it should cost about $50.

Windows 8--Hit or Miss?

Filled under:

March 9, 2012
The Best of PCWorld

There's a common belief that Microsoft's approach to operating systems is hit and miss--as in "one hit," followed by "one miss." If you subscribe to that theory, then just as surely as Vista (a miss) followed XP (a hit), Windows 8 (following the acclaimed Windows 7) will be a flop. Now, PCWorld Jason Cross and Nate Ralph--who have been putting the Consumer Preview (the first beta) of Win 8 through its paces for the last week--are more optimistic about its chances. The most radical redesign of Windows since Win 95 came out 17 years ago, Windows 8 is a bold, often elegant reworking of Microsoft's franchise operating system. However it's that boldness that could easily work against it in the marketplace. In general, people don't like change--especially when what they already have works just fine. And Windows 8 is all about change, requiring users to unlearn a lot of what they know about how Windows traditionally behaves. Cross and Ralph believe the effort is worth it, but many users would beg to differ. In fact, in "Windows 8 Survey: Half Who Have Tried the OS Wouldn't Recommend It" we asked thousands of readers who had already downloaded the beta what they thought of it, and the responses are all over the map. If you're curious about Windows 8, be sure to check out our first look, plus the firsthand report from PCWorld's reader panel. Then if you download the beta or get hold of the final version whenever it ships, you'll be prepared.
--Editorial Director Steve Fox
